Your courses
How to calculate your GPA
- Add each course with its credit hours and the letter grade you earned (or expect to earn).
- The calculator multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours automatically.
- Your overall GPA, total credits, and total grade points update live at the bottom as you edit.
How the 4.0 GPA scale works
On the standard 4.0 scale used by most US colleges, an A is worth 4.0 grade points and an F is worth 0, with plus and minus grades adjusting the value up or down by roughly 0.3. A course's contribution to your overall GPA is weighted by its credit hours, so a 4-credit course with a B+ affects your GPA more than a 1-credit lab with the same grade.
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 | C+ | 2.3 |
| A | 4.0 | C | 2.0 |
| A- | 3.7 | C- | 1.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 | D+ | 1.3 |
| B | 3.0 | D | 1.0 |
| B- | 2.7 | F | 0.0 |
FAQ
Is this GPA calculator really free, with no sign-up?+
Yes. The tool runs entirely with JavaScript in your browser — there's no account, no API key, and no limit on how often you can use it.
What scale is the GPA calculated on?+
This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale, where an A is worth 4.0 points, a B is worth 3.0, and so on, adjusted by plus and minus grades.
How is the GPA calculated from multiple courses?+
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, those totals are summed across all courses, and the sum is divided by the total credit hours — a standard credit-weighted average.
Can I add or remove courses?+
Yes, use "Add course" to add a new row and the trash icon on any row to remove it. The GPA recalculates automatically as you edit.
Does this match my school's official GPA calculation?+
It uses the common 4.0 scale used by most US colleges, but some schools use different scales or weighting for honors and AP courses, so always confirm against your school's official transcript for anything that matters academically.
